MIKE FURREY
Mike owns and operates Agra Environmental and Laboratory Services, GSE’s affiliated drinking water laboratory/consulting firm specializing in the operation and maintenance of water systems, laboratory compliance, and development of environmental seminars, site remediation projects and lake management projects for various clients. Responsible for design and installation of lead and copper corrosion control treatment systems in several schools in North Jersey area. Mr. Furrey has formerly worked for the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission where he supervised a staff of 15 for a USEPA/NJDEP certified water/wastewater laboratory performing analysis for SDWA, ICR, NJPDES and SQAR programs, as well as watershed protection monitoring and applied research projects. He was responsible for evaluating pilot and bench testing results to set dosages for a 210MGD conventional treatment system and generating and manage an annual department budget of $750K, technical review of chemical contracts and evaluation of data for performance-based contracts and Manage Task Force Committees for Disinfection By-Product Reduction – ongoing studies to test alternative water treatment techniques, Residuals – ongoing studies to investigate beneficial re-use and compliance to NJPDES permit and Corrosion Control - direct all analytical aspects for compliance to lead and copper rule, including study of corrosion inhibitors. He also was Coordinator for compliance to federal Information Collection Rule (ICR) and the Development of a Watershed Management Program, including the preparation of grant proposals from various funding sources. Prior to his work at NJDWSC, he was a Licensed Operator directly responsible for operation of a T3 classified 0.6MGD Direct Filtration Plant to include water quality monitoring, instrumentation, pump calibration and reporting to the NJDEP and was a Research Chemist conducting research of biotechnology products for drug delivery and reconstructive eye surgery in compliance to FDA standards. Mr. Furrey’s professional achievements include holding a T-4 license (#0020381), W-2 license (#0019166), and aquatic pesticide applicator license (#21338B) for NJ, Present Chair for NJAWWA Information Technology Committee; member of Advisory Board for Water and Wastewater Licensing; Past Chair of NJAWWA Education and Professional Development Committee and Represented NJ in the 2000 Operators Bowl contest at the National AWWA conference. He has delivered many presentations at AWWA Water Quality Technology Conferences and NJAWWA section seminars and is a Program Coordinator for Rutgers University laboratory short courses and an Instructor for NJDEP Water and Wastewater Treatment license course (beginners and advanced). He has received National AWWA award in 1998 for Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Program and published research studying DBP reduction in Environmental Lab (10/92). Research also presented at Pittsburgh Conference. Academically, Mr. Furrey holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University. |
